1. FIND HIGH, LEVEL GROUND
Take it from those who know; a flooded tent is no fun at all. Avoid dips and low spots, and look for level ground free of tree roots.
2. BRUSH STONES, STICKS, AND DEBRIS AWAY
Rolling over a rock in your sleep is no fun at all. Prevent future headaches by sweeping loose stones, sticks, and other debris away from where you’re pitching your tent.
3. PLACE A TARP UNDER YOUR TENT
To protect the fabric of your tent, place a tarp underneath. Make sure the tarp isn’t larger than your tent and be sure to turn the edges underneath. Doing this will prevent the tarp from collecting rainwater.
4. USE THE DIRECTIONS WHEN ASSEMBLING YOUR TENT
Nobody likes to use directions, but they can be a lifesaver when setting up a tent. Additionally, when purchasing a tent, look for those with shock-corded poles that easily snap into place.

5. ALWAYS SET UP YOUR RAINFLY
You now know how to avoid water under your tent, but how about water on top? Most tents include a water-repellent rainfly, but you can also buy one separately. Always put on your rainfly and ensure that it is taut to avoid surprise showers.
6. USE A SLEEPING PAD
Seriously, a foam sleeping pad under your sleeping bag will make for a much more pleasant experience. You can buy a pad that can be rolled up, or you can use children’s foam puzzle pieces to create a gentler floor throughout your tent.
7. STORE FOOD AWAY FROM YOUR TENT
Storing food in your tent is asking for trouble. It’ll attract hungry bugs and critters, and you’ll also risk spilling food in your tent. Instead, store your food in a sealed cooler or container in your car or RV.
You’ll also want to keep your trash sealed and stored in your car or RV. This brings us to our next point…
8. PROPERLY DISPOSE OF YOUR TRASH
Don’t leave garbage sitting around your site and always clean up before the next guests arrive. Keep trash in a sealed container and dispose of it in the dumpsters at your campground.
